Bob - I'm in Howell township. Is the car running? You could rent a uhaul trailer for a fraction of the price of paying for a flatbed service.

I used one last year when I towed my C3 to Pitt to get it painted by family. Trip was smooth as silk and the trailers was top quality!!

Vette(s): 1978 Pace Car - L82 with a 4 Speed AM -FM CB radio

I looked on Uhauls web site; it mentioned because of height of the car and the slopes of the ramps, the car would scrape along the bottom.  It also mentioned the tire height is greater than 30” and the straps might not fit.  After reading this I thought it’s too much of a hassle.  But after reading you post, I guess they are wrong.  Thanks

UHAUL auto haulers work great.  I've used them to haul my 1978 vette from Washington state to California with out any problem.

My 18' flatbed trailer has the sloping (dovetail?) bed for the last two feet of its length which helps reduce the ramp angle but depending where I'm loading a car that still may not be enough.  What I do to reduce the angle to where I want it is to put a 6X6 block of wood under the tongue jack and lift the nose of the trailer (still attached to the tow vehicle) to reduce the ramp angle enough to where the car will not scrape bottom.  I also put a scissors jack under the back edge of the trailer to keep the trailer stable while I load/unload the car.  Wink

What ever you decide, this site may be helpful.

I have used FedEx.  It was about $1/ mile.  I was real happy with him.
I was able to dicker them down a bit.  Also ask about a C3VR discount.

First, thanks to all for your friendly advice!  I found a reasonable priced enclosed hauler in Hemmings, which I verified with Hemmings that they had no complaints against this firm. (Mary, from Hemmings responded to my inquiry ASAP).  I’ll let you know how I made out.  Once again THANKS for all your help!!

Steve,
Camera's ready.  The fun should start soon!! I'll probably have tons of other questions once I have her home, as this is my first Vette.  I'm switching from a mint condition Olds convertible that I've had for 8 years!

Hey BobO,
While I can't offer any suggestions on having your Corvette shipped, I'm looking forward to hearing more about it once you get it home.
Keep us "in the loop." Thumbs Up
