After 2 days with my head in the dash replacing the power brake booster, I have created a new problem. After getting everything back together for a brake test My headlights opened up and now they won't close. I checked the the override switch which I had to remove to get the booster nuts and it looks all good to me.

I also noticed a squeal form the engine compartment when I start the car. The alternator appears to have been replaced recently, bearings could be bad, or could it be from the fan clutch? It is definetly a bearing squeal. It stops after a few seconds. I used the old screwdiver to the ear and listened to the alternator and it sounded ok to me. I'm at a high frustration level right now because we are all set for C3X and now this is happening.

If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly accepted. I'll be back at it tommorow morning.

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
The squeal is from the belt not being tight enough. The starter draws a lot of power, and the alternator take a lot of torque to meet the initial charging rate. As a result the belt slips and squeals until the alt starte to charge, and the belt can get a grip. Then it shuts up.

As for the headlights, I'm willing to bet you have a loose vacuum connection. You may have pulled the vacuum lines off of the headlight switch without knowing.
On the "Tail of the Dragon"
(some day, no strike that, October 2008 it turned red, still in progress!)

Thanks to Ken I found the problem with the head lights staying up. I knocked the vac line from the dash light switch while replacing the booster. Now my headlights work, the new booster is working good and I didn't have any left over parts. NEVER AGAIN. |no-no|

My back will hurt for a while after this one.
|confusing|
