He changed the inlet manifold and carb but probably used the same air cleaner.  Gotta check 'em if you change 'em.  Not all mainfolds are the same height as original Vette ones.  You can get low profile air cleaners, that's what I have with my Edelbrock performer and Holley 600 so I can keep the original hood.

Dropping the hood to close it ain't a good idea.  The hood is probably the thinnest bit of glass on the whole car and it's the bit that gets moved the most other than the doors.  Keep closing each latch separately.
