Gauge Marking Questions - what do the lines means?

There seems to be some different of opinion of what the lines means on the engine oil temp and water temp gauges. So I ask input from you all.
On the Engine Oil gauge in lower left there is a 250 mark (straight up) but what is the small line to the left (where my needle is located in pic below) indicating what temp?
On the Water Temp gauge is 200 directly straight up ay small line or at the wider line just about the 2 in 200 (where needle is in pic)? Also then what is the small line to the left indicate temp number? This is in a 1981 Vette.

Not received any comments on the gauge marking questions yet, is it safe to assume this is a hard to determined question since there is no good information out there on what each mark really indicated?
