Do any of you guys keep an extinguisher in your car? If so what type and where/how do you mount it? Would it be feasible to mount one on the battery compartment door, just behind the hinge, or perhaps on the fender well? Can't decide on the best location. Opinions please.

I keep one mounted on the tire hump just behind the drivers seat.  I mounted it so it would clear the battery door when it's opened.  All it takes is to pop the handle to release it.

Type 10 BC fire extinguisher kept behind driver seat behind battery compartment door. You want it in an easily reachable place . Under the hood should not be an option . Remember , any extinguisher should be checked regularly and serviced at least every 3-5years According to mfg suggestions. Don't forget your garage and home.If you don't know how to use one , contact your local Fire Department they will be more than happy to assist Big Al

Yep, I'd say under the hood might not be the best of locations even for bubba. I like the idea of placing it on the tire hump if it rides well and doesn't lend itself to stress cracking the fiberglass. Always good to save space on the level deck for luggage, etc.

I keep on the '74 at all times. It's not mounted anywhere, tho. It lays in the rear compartment unless we're traveling. Then it has a specific spot behind the wheelwell on the passenger side. I can get to it while seated. If I wind up with no room there for it, then it lays on the pass side floor.  It's a type A/B/C, for different types of fires(liquid, dry, electrical, etc.)

Thanks for the reminder!  My car hasn't been on the road for awhile and this is one of the must haves for any drive.

I've read most automotive fires are due to electrical wiring and am told by a few automotive electrical engineers the wiring is only reliable up to about ten years. That would place our C3s at a pretty high risk factor. Unfortunately, though I've made repairs on wire terminal ends, bad splices, replaced a couple of multi circuit connectors and removed about 25-30 feet of extra wire, I've put off entire harness replacements due to cost and convenience. Problem is most of bubba's shoty work is electrical on my vette. Guess he had more confidence in that area. Ermm

My last extinguisher was a dry chemical type. I was following a fellow employee in the company car to work and it caught fire under the hood. Well, we were on the freeway and I pulled over right behind him, grabbed my extinguisher and saved the day. We had the car towed back in to the shop and when the boss got the news, he came to me and said, what the heck is wrong with you. You should have let it burn Wacko. So much for my heroic moment Confused.

I had a 74 Coupe and found the rear fiberglass deck panel behind the Passenger seat was a great place for a fire extinguisher mount. Used a small 1 x6 board and glued it to the top of the luggage compartment. Then mounted the Fire extinguisher to the wood with short screws. Since the 74 and later do not have a storage shelf for the rear window, the fiberglass is just a big flat area that can be used. It works best with a long slender extinguisher verses a short fat one. I placed it where I could reach it from the drivers seat by reaching back between the seats with my right hand, that makes it quick and easy to access in an emergency. You might need to show the judges where it is if you are in a show where they require a fire extinguser and it sometimes might be in the way if you need to place large luggage or items in the rear storage area, but generally it is out of sight but close by if needed! Later models with fast backs can use a similar area above the wheel well on the passenger side below the curtain using som screws with backplates on the inside of the fender well. A little tighter fit, and a little farther to reach, but out of the way. Gary in the North Ga Mountains
