Fender Covers

Was just curious as to how many of the C3VR members are using the one piece fender covers offered by some of the venders? I just ordered one today and I hope it is a decent quality. I should get it some time beginning of next week.

I use the roll out kind also..they work good..must keep them very clean though..the monkees that be here at work got us some and told us that they have to be used at all times..they had magnets on them that held them on the inside of  the fender..well metal stuck to them..bad..after about 20 fender repaints we were told not to use fender covers..I don't know why it takes so long for banana eaters to figure some thing out that is so obvious..oh well..just get a set and keep them clean and you will be fine..and don't get a set with magnets in them. I will NEVER put a fender cover on my car without a thick terrycloth towel under it. Ya'll gotta watch those foamy roll-up kinds, too....I've got a couple of them with the Stingray Logo. I have seen firsthand the damage that those things can do to the paint if they sit on there too long. There is something in the rubber(or whatever they are made of) that will react to paint, especially the older lacquer and enamels. A feller at an NCRS meet had some on his car while they were judgin it, and when the meet was over, we all saw the pattern of the cover in the paint...it wouldn't wipe off, it wouldn't rub off with compound. It apparently ate into the paint(it was an outdoor meet). This was paint that was about two years old, too. Just a warning for ya'll about that type of cover. I'll use mine, but I always put a clean towel under them.
I always wanted one of those that went around the entire front of the car. I wished I would have gotten one when they were still affordable at $80!!
No matter WHAT kind you use, just always be sure it is clean on the back side, as Rich said.

 Got two from CARLISLE. Do not leave them on long. Do the work and take them off.

I have to admit I don't use covers on my corvette..I put the terry cloth I used for detailing on it now..only when I am playing with brake fluid..as I have the single stage old as dirt paint..I didn't know that the roll up ones that I use at work would damage or seep into the paint..UGH! I can only imagine how bad it would be to damage the paint instead of protecting it..good idea to put a cloth under the cover! I will put that one in the storage bank for future use!

I already have a bed sheet for under the fender covers. Wife gave it to me when I did the motor in the 74. But i cut that into smaller sections as I had bought 5 of the summit covers that time. Now I'll have to get another sheet and cut it into a one piece under cover. Just want to make sure that I protect the new paint since I will have to pull the motor out sometime this winter/ spring. 

I have a soft plush seat cover from a thrown out chair of my daughters. (Hot pink) It's real plush but slippery, don't really need it to much. I do have two Champion Spark Plug fender covers from the 70's. One even has a light bulb burn hole thru it from the old style drop lights. Hated those cage covers best to just leave em off that way the light fits into tighter places.

Those old fender covers are like pre formed and stitched, not really designed for our fat fenders. I have never seen the one Joel mentioned.....

I use the foamy roll up kind too. Always remove em as soon as I'm done...

These are the ones we're talking aboot...
