Doing a little more browsing I need to correct myself a bit. The Mako Shark had two variations.
The Mako Shark I (click to see image) (aka Corvette Shark) was the design exercise in 1961 that, along with influence from the 1959 StingRay Racer (click to see image), led to the C2 styling.
The Mako Shark II (click to see image) (aka Manta Ray) was the design exercise in 1965 that led to the C3 styling.

Thanks Jim for the info and the pics!!
They guys are correct about the Stingray badges on the C3. They were on the front fenders from 1969 to 1976.
