Hi, I have a 73 L-82 coupe that is numbers matching down to the hose clamps. The prior owner did not remove the oringinal rear glass during the restoration and this resulted in some pretty ugly scaring around the edges of the glass (80grit paper). They (the scatches)are not in my line of sight, but when the sun reflects on them it is very unsightly. Should I remove and replace with new glass? I would think that a NOS glass in pristine condition would be hard to find? Will this lessen the car value, etc?

I know it's all in the eye's of the beholder/owner, but the car is sooooooooo right, other than this.

thanks

i have heard that some scratches can be polished out. i personaly have never done it. also replacement glass is sometimes thinner than the orgional. something to consider when replacing glass

If you are a member of NCRS, you could probably put an add in Driveline stating what you are looking for. I would bet your responses won't have cheap price tags. Zip products offers replacement glass properly date coded "relatively" inexpensive.

Glenn,

Yes, I found them but, no rear glass there. I have a guy on E-BAY who wants $350.00 + shipping.I think that's high.

all the best,

Gregg,
I just grabbed my Eckler's catalog. They show rear glass for under $200.00. It does not specify date coding, but for a small amount of cash, I bet they could get it date coded for you. It is in the "restoration" section so it may even be the correct thickness. Check 'em out, hopefully you will get surprised.
Good luck.

Glenn,

Thanks for the info, I have contacted Ecklers and asked if they would date code glass for me and I am awaiting their reply.

Corvette Central has one for $142.75 as opposed to Ecklers $169.99-- what, if any, diffrence is, I do not know.

thanks

Glen,

Date coding for free-no charge! Ecklers was so nice to deal with I ordered a urethane front bumper to boot, as it was $50 cheaper than I could locate anywhere else. They gave me a break on the shipping too! LIFE IS GOOD.

Thank's for the tip.
