Many corvette drivers I meet say the C-3 Bettes were the worst years and I say they were the coolest in show style and status- plus I have never broken down in my 1973 Vette

I always thought the C3's were the best looking Corvettes. Always liked the yellow ones as well.

I still think they are the best looking. But when you got into the middle of the generation, quality control went into the crapper.

Vette(s): 1972 LT-1 convertible with factory air. 2017 Black Rose Grand Sport M7 convertible.
Worst years to me would be 84 and the California 305ci C3 (75?).

"Quality Control" -- The driver's door on my '75 has a normal gap at the front bottom, and almost an inch gap at the top!

I liked the '73 because I thought the plastic front bumper improved the style and I never liked the rear detail from '74 on. I also thought at the time that Chevrolet might designated as a 20th anniversary model but they waited until the 25th. My only regret was that I didn't get a roadster when I ordered mine because I always thought the silhouette with the top down was very sleek.

Is your paint job by any chance the same as the 1970 yellow? I remember the yellow for '73 turned out to be more of a gold color. Only saw one of those ever. I wanted a yellow but since they didn't have it, I'll let my wife pick the color. She picked Orange Metallic. Repainted it in 1986 with lacquer and added a clear coat mainly due to the common St Louis plant Corvette paint failing along with seam cracking. Kept the same color though.

Vette(s):
SOLD - "The Toy" - '70 Convertible
SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)
SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
SOLD - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am
"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe

I agree that the C3s are the most stylish - at least thru the '73s. The "rubber bumper" years really didn't trip my trigger, until the '80-'82 MYs- imho.

Yellow hues were all over the place. Paint code stayed the same but the name changed in a few instances. And one paint code was available in six of the years but with two different names.

'68 - Safari Yellow (984) - 3,133

'69 - Daytona Yellow (984) - ?

'70 - Daytona Yellow (984) - ?

'71 - Sunflower Yellow (912) - 1,177

- War Bonnet Yellow (989) - 3,706

'72 - Sunflower Yellow (912) - 1,543
- War Bonnet Yellow (989) - 2,550

'73 - Yellow (952) - ?

- Metallic Yellow (953) - ?

'74 - Bright Yellow (56) - ?

'75 - Bright Yellow (56) - 2,883

'76 - Bright Yellow (56) - 3,389

'77 - Corvette Yellow (52) - 71

- Corvette Bright Yellow (56) - 1,942

'78 - Corvette Yellow (52) - 1,243

'79 - Corvette Yellow (52) - 2,357

'80 - Yellow (52) - 2,077

'81 - Yellow (52) - 1,031

'82 - no yellow offered

All these numbers came from the Corvette Black Book. Interesting that some MYs don't have the quantities for the paints (?). MY '81 had the most colors/color combos of any of the C3 MYs.
