I have seen many newer Vette owners that don't care what I have but then again there are a lot of them that stop me to say "nice Vette". Makes me feel good when the do. I don't give much thought to the ones that don't.

One thing we can do is try and educate the younger generation about the fine art of waving
. One day they may carry on the proud tradition.
Every time I think I have my mind made up about newer Vette owners being absolutely clueless, one (finally) goes by and gives an enthusiastic wave.
GO FIGURE!
Happened to me today. Driving into Shreveport on I-20, I see a red c5 on the other side of the freeway. I was getting ready to give the usual ignored wave when his arm shot out the window and beat me to it, from across the freeway!!

I know the voices aren't real, but they have some pretty cool ideas...

There are Corvette owners and Corvette People! Corvette Owners are those that bought the car because it was a car - a cool car maybe. Corvette PEOPLE (Like Us) bought the car because because it was a Corvette! To us, it is not JUST a car but a part of our lives and our dreams. The Corvette "owners" would be just as happy with a Nissan or Honda; we are happy because we are driving a Corvette!
My 82 is a daily driver (300 Miles/week) and I see a lot of Corvettes almost every day. About 70% wave, but I also honk my horn....especially when I see another C3. I believe the C5/6 owners just do not know the Corvette legacy and their reasons for buying the car are different than ours.
Besides, if they don't wave back, I wasn't waving at THEM anyway!

I like driving my C3 because you don't see them that often. The C5 and C6 vettes are a dime a dozen. You see them quite a bit. I have a guy at my local parts house who has a C6. He asked what year mine was. I told him it's an 82. He said he sold his 78 anniversary to get his new vette. He said the only thing he didn't like about the 78 was the lack of HP. He really loves the C3's.

Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.
I waited 35 years for a VETTE, I have had several horsepower cars. I had lots of fun but THEY WERE NOT VETTES. Gas was 30-40 cents, and I used lots of it. I am older now, gas is not my goal, nor is big H/P. I enjoy my C3 with only 195 ponies and my heart is content. There is joy in my heart and a smile on my face, not to mention the good MPG usage. THANKS to the C3VR crowd I am now in the best years of my life.

I never forgot: driving my brand new "64" red fastback Corvette home from the dealer. I passed up another vette and he WAVED to me. I couldn't understand how he knew me or anything. I waved back of course....but didn't understand. I later found out about "the Wave". I always loved being part of a very select group. As the 80's rolled around I noticed that many doctors began driving Corvettes (I worked at many hospitals). I noticed that they really didn't participate in "the Wave".

This is not only limited to Vettes. Back in the '70s in Northern Ca., I had a couple of Porsches, a '59 356A and a '62 356B. There were quite a few still around and we all waved, flashed lights or honked at each other. Then you had the 914's, 912's and 911's that were like C-5 and C-6 drivers. Rarely could you get an acknowledgement from them.
I still wave at every Vette I see. Maybe more wave back than I can tell because they always have their windows rolled up, unlike C-3's with windows down trying to get some air in the coc kpit!

Phil has it down....this is the difference. The later model folks that do wave more than likely also own other Corvettes, and are part of our fraternity. I know many C5/6 owners that also have older cars...mostly mid-years, or solid axles. These are Corvette PEOPLE. These are also the one you'll get the Wave from...not the jerks that leased the newest car, or the Preppies that sweet-talked Ma & Pa into co-signing....then go out and make a u-tube video of themselves ripping the top out of it...
Don't really matter who it is...Save the Wave...
