If I had an early C3 I would keep it stock. But mid 70's suffered under government regulations. I want mine to perform like the vette was designed to do. My 76 was stock and original but a little tired. So I but a new motor in with a few more ponies. It is still mostly stock except for the motor and wheels. The original motor can be rebuilt and put back in should some day the value of it being stock out ways the fun I am having with it. I don't see that happening though.

Well.... If ya looks at my Red Baby, its way way way over the top body mods, but streetable with respectablity under the hood. Am doing the interior with way over the top mods there too. My apoligies to those offended. Ya know, that is one thing that i love about this sight. There has never been one insult here about it. Wish i could say the same for a couple of the local clubs.
Well, at least the Yellow Vette is factory stock (except the rear bumper).Lifetime Member #36

Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.

I like almost ALL of them! When I was looking for a 74, I had intentions of modifying it (upgrading to the 80-82 style nose and tail). When I found mine with so few miles, I changed my mind and decided to keep it original. But I don't know if that will always be the case...
Modifying drivetrain? I don't see that as an issue at all. I especially love seeing an older Vette with a modern Vette engine.
Body mods? I've seen a number of things over the years that I think most people would call "over the top," but even if I don't care for the look, I'm always impressed when the workmanship in the body was done well. I have no patience or skill in doing things like that myself, so when I see someone has done a mod so clean that it looks "factory" in terms of quality, I'm always impressed.
Chrome? I have a confession. I'm not a fan. I know others love it, but I've just never really cared for it. There. I said it. It's one of the reasons I was attracted to the '74 Vette - the only chrome I have is on the wheels and the windshield surround. My '07 Silverado I recently bought has very little chrome and I'm in the process of trying to make it completely "blacked out."
Bottom line - as others have said here - as long as the driver/owner loves it, it doesn't matter - oh, except for one other thing - YA GOTTA DRIVE IT!!!!
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

I can appreciate both and like both, but when i first saw my custom 76 i fell in love with it and the color. I enjoy it and I thinks thats what really counts. I enjoy replacing parts with more updated and modern equipment to improve handling, performance and looks. All corvetts are awesome.

Once any of us buy our cars its ours to do with what we want. Thats whats cool.
But I must admit that stock, bone stock, is what really floats my boat.
Seeing a car the way it was introduced to America in that particular year. A part of history.
Are either of my cars bone stock? No. Both have been repainted and the exhaust changed.
In the 70 I still just have the stock radio. Paid to fix the stock radio. But I like that.
So when I see a true "survivor" I just go "How cool is that".
But I must admit that stock, bone stock, is what really floats my boat.
