Hey Guys, help please. Yesterday I went to have my CC removed and a straight pipes run back to my mufflers. The welder had taken the day off and the guy that was there to me if I have my CC removed I would have more raw gas and that might cause me blow off a muffler. I should know if this is true but old age tells me to ask you guys if this is true??????????????????Gene

Removing your cat will drop your exhaust back pressure. The drop will probably make it run slightly leaner, not richer.
The "more raw gas" statement probably has more to do with the fact that you'll be running it harder.

Don't know where you are located, but don't remove the cat unless you live in a state that doesn't have inspections

A '77 would be exempt in most states anyway, due to the age. Be sure to check first, tho.
As far as the guy telling you basically to not remove it, it sounds more like a sales pitch for installing a new converter.
Removing the converter will do no damage to the muffler...unless the mufflers are about to crap out anyway. It's true that there might be more unburned fuel in the system without the cat, but...how the heck did we ever get along without the cats before???
My '74 don't have no stinkin cat, never did, and my mufflers are still there, and undamaged.
Sounds like a scare tactic to get you to buy a new system to me.
