If you are looking for the status of the Title, you need to do that with the Department of Motor Vehicles in the State the vehicle is Titled and/or registered in. You can also have the current owner fax you a copy of the Title. Take the copy to your home DMV, and for a fee they will check the current status of the Title

Yeah, that's what I'mma thinking, too. Local DMV is gonna be your best bet.
If you suspect there is a problem with the title, you may want to back away from the car.

Depending on the State, if the current owner has a title, it would show if it is "salvage", or not, and should have all of the correct info, such as VIN, and the current owner's name, as well as the previous owner's name.
The DMV is still going to have the final say on whether or not the car is legit.

The seller should be able to prove to you whether he/she has clear title to the car.  If there is a problem with that, your next step would be to begin with the DMV where the car is/was last licensed.

Yes, be VERY careful with this. In Arizona, salvage titles are not made "salvage" until there is a transfer. The local DMV should have all the info, but because of the privacy act you may not be able to get the info in some places without the legal owner present.

I'm having the owner scan the title for this (restored 1974 C3) Vette and e-mail it to me as an attachment, then I'll take it to the local DMV. I hope it works! The car is in Arkansas. Bobby G2008-03-12 10:23:53

I have been wondering if the title is valid or not, and why the owner hasn't sold this fully restored Vette in over 2 months now? Anyone would jump at the chance to own this excellent condition low retail car. Actually about 2K under the low KBB. The owner claims he needs the money to pay medical bills. He usually replies quickly, but has not replied since the request for the title copy. Bobby G2008-03-12 19:51:29

"Run, Forest....RUUUUN"!!!!
I see you are actually looking for a car to buy. If I might make a suggestion, or offer some advice...
Don't get TOO caught up in buying your Corvette...think hard about what you want, and what you plan on doing with it once you do find and buy one. Some folks get too emotional, and buy the first one that looks good to them. That's not usually the best thing to do. Sometimes, you'll get taken to the cleaners on one, if there are problems that aren't fully disclosed before the sale. Such as a title issue...that's a biggie!

I hope this does work out, and the title issue is not really an issue. Problem is, if you buy the car with the understanding that the title is clear, and then something turns up later, you could possibly loose the car....and your hard earned cash. Patience is needed here. If this car looks like it's going to be a headache(and it looks like it already is), you might think about keeping your search going elsewhere.

There are several members here that looked for the one special car for a long time before finding it. If it takes a little longer to find "The One" for you, it will be worth the wait.
Just my opinion...take it for what it's worth.
Good Luck on the search for you Corvette!!!

I've not seen any 74's this clean and complete, of course it is only online, but the current owner restored it, and the pics certainly show it. Still it kind of bugs me it hasn't sold yet for being listed almost 2 months. . .

FWIW:  the past two or three months have not been Corvette weather which could account for why the car has not sold.  Just the same, go slowly here.  You will want a clear title before you buy.
