If all C3 owners would register here, then I wouldn't ask the question, but also part of getting the C3 owners together, this site also cumulate stats.
 
I was wondering if there's a ressources out there (most likely at the DMV level) that have stats of how many C3's are left and per year.

This question (or type of question) has come up numerous times here and other Vette forums.  I'm sure the DMV would be the best place to get this info... unfortuately, to the best of my knowledge, that info is not public record.

Plus, even with that, it wouldn't inlcude all the ones that still exist but are not registered with DMV.

I agree, not all of them are registered, some are now oversea, some abandoned in a barn, yet to be re-discovered... but I would think that 80% are registered.
 
Now, for the good news :
 
I did a quick search on my state DMV website and at the bottom of this page, there is a phone number for "Bulk Database Searches".
 
I called them up and found that it is possible to obtain stats at the cost of 0.01$ per entry returned (50$ minimum).  The current generic search doest not include Model.  I could only search Chevy 2DR, BUT it is possible to supply the VIN characteristics that would drill it down to a Corvette.
 
For the not so good news : this is just for Florida, as every state have their own rules, so I have quite a few more phone calls to make....
 
I wonder if I could convince a magazine to conduct this search.  You would think that the magazines or anybody doing pricing on C3 (like them) could start putting more importance of the numbers left (with options) instead of previous auctions sale price.

Two words................Logistically impossible!!
With over 1/2 million Sharks built, it would be really hard to find out how many are still intact.
Even with the '53s, and the '55s,(only 1000 total, between the two years) we can't get an accurate figure on how many are still intact.
It would be cool, tho, wouldn't it?

Yes it would!
 
So I guess the price will continue to be based on previous auction; which equates to "what people are willing to pay for" + trends (which comes and go) and of course condition based on age and what major work has been done on it.  Rarity is more of a guess.
 
I would like to see the value of mine go through the roof, but at the same time, it would mean that I would have to be VERY careful when taking it out for a spin and original parts would be way to expensive.
 
Regardless, I just want to be able to afford to keep it running for the next 30 years.

I've seen(recently) big-block, convertible '74s for sale from $20,000 to $29,000. When I first bought mine, in '97, the same cars were selling for $15,000-$20,000.
I'm hoping mine will actually be worth what I have in it now, at some point. That way, I can convince Mama that the money needed to finish(?!) it will be worth it!

Corvette Magazine regularily runs price guides on each generation.  I've done a little comparing of what they list to what is out on a national search of CollectorCarTraderOnLine.com and find CM isn't that far off the mark.
