Is the top of the gas tank the only place that build sheets can be found? I retrieved mine from that location and it's unreadable.

Vette(s):
SOLD - "The Toy" - '70 Convertible
SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)
SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
SOLD - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am
"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe
I've read that they can be found in many places - behind the dash, under seats/carpeting, etc. But the most common place is on top of the gas tank. Haven't stumbled on one in "The Toy" yet, but hope to!

Thanks,
I'll keep looking. Would like to verify whether it originally had the Aluminum wheel option or not and white letter tires. It has GM rally wheels on it now. All numbers match on it except for the starter I replaced in '88 or so.

Vette(s): ......
I found the one on my gastank when I rebuilt the rear end last tear,Then I had a stupid moment reached up there and tried to get it off,I got half of it the other half is still up there.Its barely readable but I did get a lot of info from it.it feels like they put it on with tar.I have taken other G.M. products apart b-4 and have found build sheets in other places like behind the seats under neath the springs ,tucked under the dash and under the carpet,even in the head liner.I'm hoping I find another one in the vette somewhere,good luck on your quest!Ron 78 |thumb| |cool| |cheers| |wavey| |saluteflag| |withstupid|

I've owned 7 early sharks, ie: 1970 thru 1972, have pulled tanks on all, most were unreadable if cars had normal mileage with age, on low mileage garage kept models, the 'Corvette Order Copy' is somewhat legible. This piece of paper is really a carbon (1 of 7 pages) and is very delicate and fades and deteriorates rather easily. It has a wealth of information and is a very good source of documentation for the high performance models. It is glued down on the tank and takes careful patience to remove without destroying the document, but should be removed before the lettering fades into oblivion and the paper document becomes useless! I might be pointing out the obvious, but...
Take a picture of it before you try to remove it. That way, if you destroy it, you'll at least have the picture to refer to.

pictures pictures pictures. take digital photos if you can and then you can change the contrast and shades and make them more readable. i have found that if you use a heat gun you can get that sticky black goo to loosten up and then slowly slide a large spackling knife under it and it will come off. TAKE YOUR TIME you only get one chance to get it off.
