Anyone have the information on how to find out the build date for a 79?

Unless you're lucky enough to find a build sheet somewhere in your car the closest piece of information would be the trim tag mounted on the driver's door pillar. Body build months begin with 'A' and usually are August, but that has varied. So if you see a code 'C05' it would mean that the body was built on (or near) October 5th.
If you know that your engine is the original one you can get its build date off of one of the number pads (a little help here numbers gurus!).
The car's assembly date would be with a few days of the engine and body build dates.
Hope that helps a little.
