There IS a title to the Vette? I'm assuming it's like my Pace Car title was, the back filled out in the current sellers name. Just never transferred. I would think you could get a signed and notorized statement from the current seller that the car was inoperable for the time he had it(it is almost 40 years old), and he has no interest in it. That and his bill of sale should work.
I just didn't want to go through the effort since my seller offered to correct it for me and I was dealing with a bit more money.

It must be exciting. Bought my 80 on Valentines Day, 2 years ago and it has been in the shop since Aug of 2005. Can't imagine having 2 to drive. All I get to do is visit mine.
Cant wait to see some pics.

Micki,
No need to panic if you really want the car. If the seller has an endorsed Title from the guy he purchased the car from there are numerous ways to correct the problem. Many professional Title search companies do this daily. I have done it twice with non-registered vehicles. If you "Google vehicle title company" you can find some one to help. All they do is act as the buyer and transfer the car title to a Non-Title state, I think Alabama is one, and then the car can be sold with that State's Bill of Sale Affidavit. Then the receiving State, in your case Texas, issues a new Texas Title. All you need to demonstrate is a chain of ownership.
I know of several collectors here who do this on a regular basis, particularly with the so called "barn" finds.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Well, it doesn't get any better....
Monday, I got the check for $5,000 I sent back. They had torn it up and mailed it back. I had been watching my bank account. At least they sent the check back, so I hadn't been totally screwed.....
I really wanted the car
, but I bet anything, the guy sold it over the weekend to someone in Maine. Can't do a dog-gone thing about it.....I don't think.
I should get someone to email the guy and see if he did actually sell the car or if he still has it. Hey Jeff!!?????
