Are Power Steering and Brakes Worth Having?

both should be required and not an option-----dont buy the car without them

My '70 SB had pwr steering and no pwr brakes. I'm currently finishing the process of installing a factory pwr brake setup on it (not a very easy task I might add!). I'll post a follow up as to which brake setup I like better on the car.

My comments on the very same question were: 1)I can't believe the power brakes were an option at that time: On the cars I drove, that had no PB, the words "slowing device" would better reflect the efficiency of what they call manual brakes.

I do not get this ??
The brakes of a power assisted car are exactly similar to the non power assisted ones.
All it needs is a bit more food effort.
The actual braking of the car is 100 % the same.
The original PB is only lowering the food force required by 30 % or so, so not a lot at all.
I can bring all 4 wheels to a standstill at any car speed.
I do not miss the PB at all , but it takes some experience to remember when switching over from a PB car to a non PB one.

About the wandering effect of PS, this is only during straight on driving. The old PS seems not to find a tight neutral and needs constant slight correction to drive a staight line. Takes a while to get used to this.
My non PS big block car drives like on train rails.
The new STEREORID system ( rack & pinion ) eliminates this completetly. ( they claim )
I might modify my car to this system, depending on our local state control station oppinion. They might refuse this as over here, a lot of modifications require some certification paperwork for the type model etc.
