Vette(s): Looking to purchase a '69 vette. Prefer automatic 427/430HP
I'm looking to purchase a '69 Vette. Do the automatics hold their value just as good as the manual transmissions?

IT`S A MATTER OF PREFERENCE. I WOULD SAY MANUAL TRANNYS ARE MORE DESIREABLE. ARE YOU BUYING THE CAR FOR INVESTMENT OR FOR YOURSELF TO DRIVE. i SUGGEST YOU BUY THE CAR THE WAY YOU WANT IT AND ENJOY IT. BOB

For what it is worth, the Old Car Price Guide says 4-speed and auto are worth the same. Bob is right. Buy whatever you want. If you buy what seems more valuable now, how do you know the market won't change down the road.

Vette(s): #1 -1969 Corvette Coupe Riverside Gold, black interior,MN,A/C,350/350,PS,PB,window cranks.
#2 -2000 C5, black/black, 6 sp, Bose system & lots of buttons.
I prefer a 4 speed (better pick up) and if your battery dies you can always point the car down hill, push in the clutch, put it in first, pop the clutch and your car will start.
Then, you can make it to the auto store to buy another battery.....

Buy what makes you feel happiest with the car. A 4-speed is generally considered more desirable, but that only matters if you're looking at the car as an investment. A car with a good automatic is better than one with a 4-speed that's been trashed, and vice-versa.
Think about what you plan on doing with the car...keep it original or something to personalize and make some non-original changes? If you plan on changing to a 5-speed, then it makes sense to get a car already equipped with a manual. The same goes for a car you plan on installing a 200- or 700R4 overdrive automatic.
My '69 has an M21 4-speed. Why...because that's the way it came and it makes me happy! The '78 I owned had an automatic. It made me happy as well...it was a much easier and pleasant car to drive for general cruising. The '69 is a beast and the 4-speed is part of what makes it that.
Make yourself happy.
