Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79
I'm going to put my Vette "in storage" for three months. I'm going to rent space in a garage from a private party on his farm.
He's asking for a copy of my insurance policy (and money of course). Does that make sense? Should I give that to him?
Is there anything I should ask for from him?
I'm planning to take pictures of it in the garage at his place, and a few photos of the garage itself and the property.
I get to put it "in storage" on my insurance policy too, which will more than offset the cost of storage.
I'm also planning to disconnect the battery and lock it up and take the keys with me. Anything else I should do?

The copy of the insurance is probably for his piece-o-mind, as well as protection.
Find out what type of "security" he is providing, as in, locks, fences, etc.
Put some bags of desicant inside it, and, stay with me now...some cedar wood chips. This will keep it dry, and keep the varmits and bugs out. You may want to change the oil/filter too...a lot of folks do that when they store their cars for a time. Keeps the acidity in the old oil from doing any damage. Check the other fluids, as well. Anti-froze, power steering, trans, etc.
If it will be stored on a cement floor, you may want to get some sheet plastic to put onder it, to keep the moisture down, also.

Joel is right on. By all means, use the plastic sheeting underneath the
car. This will prevent moisture/condensation from accumulating on the
undercarriage. Clothes dryer sheets, such as Bounce, will also keep the
varmints away. If you follow Joel's procedure you will be good to go.

Ditto what everyone has said to this point. Put the plastic down no matter what floor surface there is. I also pump the tires up to 50 lbs to help reduce flat spotting. And take the battery with you, especially if it is an unheated space. Batteries can freeze and when the case cracks you have a big mess when the weather warms up.
If you have a good quality car cover use it. If you don't have one - get one. And crack the side windows a tad to let the air move around a little.
Also add some Sta-bil to the fuel tank when topping the tank on the way over to the storage place.

I would leave him a key or access to one in the advent something could be prevented from happening to your car. (like if the barns on fire)

I also remember hearing from somewhere, (probably here), to put a rag or something in your tail pipes to keep the rodents from making a nest inside your mufflers.

That's good, too.
"Brillo" pads are better, tho, because the mice/rodents won't try to chew it, or pull it out for nesting material.
Three months is really not a long time for storage, at least not to me.
The '74 has only been out once/twice since PF in June!

I don't know about your insurance policy from from my knowledge they usually work this way.
If your car catches fire (HEAVEN FORBID) or you crash into his garage, your policy pays for the damage. If on the other hand, his garage catches fire, collapses, tree falls onto it etc HIS insurance will pay the damage. Your covered anyway you look at it through your policy, but I can assure you the your insurance company will look to be reimbursed.
As for storage, all of the suggestions provided are on the money, however I suggest that since the garage is on a farm rodents and other varmints may get into the garage. I use a car bag, it's the best money I have ever spent on protecting my car. It comes with 6 bags of desiccant. After I prep the car as previously suggested, I open the bag drive the over it, take 3 bags of desiccant and place them under the car (in the bag) take the remaining 3 bags place them inside the car, take some fabric softeners, throw a few under the car, take your car cover, cover the car, and then zip the bag over your car.
3 months or 6 months later when you open the bag up your car will look like it only spent the night !
It may sound like over kill, and maybe it is, but it really works and helps keep the critters away.
