Vette(s): 1981 Charcoal Met., Silver Interior, Gymkhana Suspension, 27K original miles. It's my daily driver.
So I am finally getting a chance to really look over the new to me 81' I bought a few weeks ago. In the glovebox are 2 rows of slots for 8 track tape storage. My question is, were these installed by the PO or was this stock from the factory? So far I haven't been able to find any unfo on this. Nothing in the owners manual about it either. Thanks, Tom

They were installed by the factory ONLY if you got the 8track or cassette radio options.
If you didn't order either of those radios the plastic glove box liner didn't even have the holes for the dividers.
If you want to remove the dividers to make the glove box more usefull remove the box from the dash, 6 screws, and carefully work the dividers out.

This car came stock with the am/fm/8-track option. Now the next question is this. If/when it is judged at an NCRS event, will it count against me if they are not in place? I think it's kinda cool that they're actually there! I wonder how many others still have them installed? Thanks again, Tom

Might cost you 5 points to not have the dividers in place.
It will also cost you 10 points if you don't have an 8 track for the radio operations test!

Mike's right, they came installed in the glove box if you had the factory 8-Track. Mine were removed before I got my 78, I only know this cause the screw holes are there. I always wondered what the holes were for. I'd remove them and just hold on to them. It's kind of nice having the glovebox.

My 8-Track player had seen better days so its sitting in the basement. I swapped it out for a Custom Autosound unit. Not the greatest ever, but it looks cool.
