Hey Gang, I have just found the lost 2nd fuel tank strap
for my 68. Tank does not appear to have ever had any paint on it.
Is that correct, just needs to be hung and no paint? Any other things I should do before replacing the tank?
Thanks, Bruce

According to the NCRS manual it says the following about the gas tank. "The two halves of the tank were welded from already galvanized material, so the weld heat-affected zone will be visible. Refinished tanks will have the weld zone plated. The logo of the producer of the metal (O.L.Anderson) is sometimes visible." So it appears the tank should not be painted. In regards to the straps, it doesn't reference them. I haven't looked at mine in ages and cannot remember if they are dipped in black paint or galvanized. Hopes this helps. Maybe someone else knows if the strap is painted or not. Just remember, the tri-carb cars did not have a return line to the tank.

I just had my tank out and it is just galvanized. the tank straps looked like they were black but they are all-full rusty so I bought new ones. My car is to far gone to worry about judging. I just want to drive it. |smile|
