One item to have checked is the trailing arms. The allignment shims and pens can rust up. To much rust and an alignment is not possible. This happened to me. To correct this can get expensive.
Sounds like your doing it right.
Good luck

No word yet. I was hoping to get some pics this weekend but no such luck. He was supposed to put a new battery and alternator in, so hopefully he will get that done and get me some pics. Honestly, I don't want to seem too eager for fear of the price going up. Not sure how long to wait, but I figure I give him another day or two before I call. Thoughts?

i would start looking at some other vehicles , this way you have some comparisons, and just in case this guy gets wishy washy on you and either decides not to sell or he realized he`s leaving money on the table.
as i posted earlier, try to be objective and make a smart buy not an emotional buy.it`s a very exciting thing , buying your first vette. good luck

Thanks vetterob, that is some sound advice. I am trying my best to keep an objective mind and keep my emotions out of it. I have looked on that site, quite a good assortment, and easy to navigate site. In looking around I found this little gem http://www.usedcorvettesforsale.com/1978-corvette-22592.html
In addition, and an FYI, I just stumbled on this site http://www.americandreamcars.com/corvettepick.htm.
A couple of candidates I found are
http://www.americandreamcars.com/1973stingray082305.htm
http://www.americandreamcars.com/1975stingray082004.htm
And to better educate myself, what is the difference between L-48 and L-82?
Thanks again everybody. I am really happy I found this site. You guys are great!

the L- 82 was offered as a performance motor from `73-`80. here`s a site that will give you some info.http://members.tripod.com/l82corvette/history.htm.
the `73 you forwarded is nice. definately not a stocker and the 383 will haul.
i picked out that `78 also, looked good for the price, a little issue with the center console on the driver side, but again in the price range your in , your going to need to put work into the car.

e-bay! I've seen some killer deals on there and a lot of C3's 78-79's also real good place to compare prices. I'm going to throw in to check out all the gaps between he hood, front clip and doors and to check out the front end real good up under the headlights.
I'm also kind of a fan of having a car checked out by a shop before I make an offer, costs a little money but it's good insurance/bargaining tool. Good Luck!

Got some info and pics...yaaay!!
Here is what he said in the email...
VIN# 1Z87L8S402602
1978 Corvette
25th Anniversary Production Model (1953-1978) with special commemoratory emblems on hood and tail. About 93,500 miles total; new engine installed at 92,000.
And here are the pics...

I was hoping for some interior pics and maybe the engine, oh well. Seems pretty clean to me, appears to maybe be original paint. Upon closer inspection of the giant Imageshack pics, I see a small crack in pic #1 just above the running light. I have read mention of corner cracks in the front and back on other websites, this is my first time seeing one. Is this a big deal or something easy to fix, or can I live with it? What do you guys think?
