With many thanks to fellow 1970 Corvette Registry owner Roberto Luis in Argentina, I'm pleased to announce that I have online at the '70 Registry website a searchable AIM index. This contains the part numbers, descriptions, UPC codes, page numbers etc... It'll let you cross reference parts and everything using simple searches.

Enjoy! And thank you Roberto! |bouncy|

I have seen the Letters AIM in many places on this site. What does it stand for? It is also in the profile area. Thanks

AIM stands for Assembly Instruction Manual. Its really helpful. I recently puchased one for my '77. It has everything in exploded engineering drawings. Its a good buy if you do a lot of work yourself.

I am planning on buying one for my 74. When you buy the manual, do you get an id or a membership number? You guys and gals have been a great help.

Actually no. Two things you should buy are an AIM and a shop manual. The AIM shows how everything goes together and the wiring schematics in the shop manual are indispensible when troubleshooting electrical problems. Used both of mine many times on my 82

Shop manual also shows you how to get at things. AIM is how they put it together at the factory. It's what the folks on the floor building the cars used to know what went where, what the part numbers were, torque specs, etc... It's about 1" thick, all exploded diagrams of every last thing, down to the last nut and rivet. It's also got dimensions etc... You can often find them on eBay. If you're an NCRS member you get a NCRS number. You can buy the manuals from them (supports the club) at a discount. www.ncrs.org ~Juliet

I've also added a couple of general repair manuals to my bookcase. They have helped me on several projects with photos and easy to read/follow step by step instructions.

Chilton's General Motors Corvette 1963-1982 Repair Manual (#28500)
Hayes Repair Manual Chevrolet Corvette 1968 thru 1982 (#24040)

I want to get a shop manual. I just have the AIM and Haynes. Actually I have something else but I've never really looked at it. I think its for all chevy passenger cars around my year Vette. I'll have to take it off the shelf sometime.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
I have the Chilton's, Haynes, GM service manual, AIM, and one from Chevrolet which they sent free. I had to send in my VIN to get it, or is that the AIM manual? I don't remember where I ordered it from though. Gettin old I guess. They always say that the mind is the first thing to go, but I can argue with that... |grin|

Chevy has some sort of restoration guide - I've only heard about that haven't actually ordered one for myself yet. The AIM is the Assembly Instruction Manual - about 1" thick book with exploded engineering diagrams of how the cars were built at the factory. It's what the folks on the assembly line floor used to know what went where, which part numbers, torque specs, toleracnes, sequence etc...
