Vette(s): 1968 Silver Convertible, blue interior with aux hardtop. 427/390 and 4 sp.
I have been digging through some parts that were with my '68, and came across this box. The inside is black and the outside is cardboard tan.
I am not sure what is it, there is also a date code on the side of "2 9 1 67" which my car is a Nov 67 car.
The box is 11.5" by 9.5" and 6" deep. Also, around the flange are 6 rubber bumpers.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

It your "accessory" box that goes behind the passenger seat inthe left hand well. In the center is a smaller "glove" box of the same corrugated make up only a shallower make up. The right had side behind the drivers seat is the battery area for which there is no box other that the actual fiberglass body mold.

Yep you should have 3 "cubby holes" (that's what I call them) behind the driver and passenger seats. Why Chevy put them there, I can't figure it out - not easy to get to while driving (gotta pull over to dig through them). If you need a picture, let me know........I have a '69 and I'll post it.

That is indeed the pass side storage box...in GREAT condition, I might add! Your jack, and lug wrench do store under it, and they should be held down with a spring.
The date code being in such good condition is awesome. Don't see many that good.
The "notches" on the top go to the front of the car, so they clear the latch for the compartment door. The holes in the sides are to stick your fingers to get the thing up & out of the compartment.

And to catch your fingers on the way up... "ouch" so be careful...

Got a '68 owner's manual? The storage box is shown in the owner's manual.

Thanks everyone for the info, my jack is visible and held down with a spring, so it seems the accessory box needs to go over it. I do have an owners manual and yes it does show the stowage tray on page 49 in fact. I will get the tray back in the car where it belongs!

Yes, I guess every year has these wonderful boxes behind you. I agree they sure aren't easy to get to and don't try this while driving.
Oh, for a '68 they are in good shape!Aaron1976 2008-02-21 20:46:06
