Got a zz4 355 horse, aluminum heads(58cc if i remember correctly) from Jeg's, in the 78 with a kesler 5 speed. Would do it again. I originally had a 600 Edlebrock Performer and was getting right around 20-22 mpg with the 4 speed(4.10 rear gear). Now with a 750 Holley and the 5 speed, getting close to the same, 20-22 mpg when driving "conservatively".... maybe a touch more..

I've got the ZZ4, a 700R4 tranny and a Demon 750 carb. Best investments I've ever made after the paint. If you're at Funfest come by and see me. I'll show you that mine fit under the hood with no issues.
Ya can't beat 350+ Hp vs. 190 !

Thanks to everyone for all your input
. I hope this isn't the end of this thread
. I'm sure there are more of us out there that could contribute something. This is a huge topic to restoration folks. ( I personally love this stuff) Soooo, keep "bringin' it" my bros ( and sis's, no gender bias here. Let's talk motors baby (no intentional downplay on the ladies roll here as vette gals are all Danica Patrick's to me)
........ Never Mind
) but don't stop now.... All life forms welcome

You can save a little bit of dough and have a super street setup by recycling your Q-Jet onto the ZZ-4. GM rates the HP @ 355 with a Q-Jet and 1-5/8" full length headers. IMHO, there is no better street carb than the Q-Jet, which flows 750 CFM in L-48 tune and 800 CFM in L-82 trim.

Ace,
I don't think so. I sent mine to The Quad Shop in Rockford, IL for a rebuild ( Quad Shop )
and told Jim McGowan what it was going on. When I got it back it was PERFECT.
