I am tinkering with the thought of pulling the 350TH and installing a 4 or 5 speed.  I am sure it will be a pita, but has anyone done it and was it worth it?

I would prefer to find an 81 version 4sp 83mm with all the fixins, but it might not be worth that effort.

thanks for any advice,

gurtz

That's got to be the most worthy change over I could imagine. You would probably have 335 or355 gears with that 350th which would be perfect for a 350 HO especially with an overdrive (5th gear ). They offer a complete kit to do just that but I'm sorry I do not know the degree of difficulty. I made the mistake of adding a gear splitter to my 350TH for the same money ( didn't see that 5 speed option a few years back ),  I could just spitPinch. Not a complete waste of money but a real frankenstien operation. Wish I'd gone with a 5 speed. I do have the '81 Borg Warner Super T-10 and it's great, But , it aint no 5 speed brother. They say the '81 4 speeds are rare but I personally don't ever see them bringing the big bucks in my lifetime so I'm fixing mine to suit myself and it was kept perfectly original down to the hose clamps.

Yeah, that sure is a lot of work and clams that I would never get out of it, unless I kept the dude till death do us part, but I am still thinking about it.  Heck, you can buy the 6 speed for an additional 200 clams through those guys.

Well,....See thereConfused. I didn't realize you could fit a 6 speed in to one of these. Must be a recent development. That would most certainly have been my choice if I had it to do over again. But then, I feel the manual shift is a big part of the performance experience. I picked my cars up very cheap so I could have one to drive and one to do projects on, but it's a great expense trying to buy parts for even one car much less 2 or more.

I understand the expenses Jimmy, I might have put my foot in my mouth.  They advertise the 6 speed set up for an additional $200.00.  I did not speak with them about it fitting in the Vette.

I wonder what kind of money it would take to get into a 700R4. At least it would be an upgrade for my wifes 350TH.
