Whining in the rear end of the Car!

I bought a 76' Corvette in May of 2003. It has a loud whining noise in the rear end. It gets louder as I increase speed. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem may be or may have a solution? I don't know what the gears are in the rear. Is there a way to find out? At 65MPH, I'm tacking 2700RPM's for reference.

If you are sure it is the rear, I would change the fluid.
