Which Valve Cover Gaskets?

Thanks to Gribble123 I have new valve covers to put on.

What kind/type/brand of valve cover gaskets should I get? Where can I get them?

I'd like to get this done before C3X so I don't drip oil all the way to Kentucky!

Well, I've decided to go with the FELPRO PERMADRY PLUS (HD) VS12869T. Mostly because I want to get them quickly. I can get these at my local AutoZone. $35.

I plan to install them sometime this week. I want to get it done before driving down to C3X.

That is what I put on and they work great. Just make sure the valve cover bolts are long enough and you get enough threads into the head. My original covers did not have gaskets and had short bolts since they were put on only with red silicone! Down the highway it was like a good cigar now and then behind me.

I have always used the standard Fel Pro valve cover gaskets.If you glue them to the valve covers with
weatherstrip adhesive and grease the head side they will
be reusable even years later.

Hate to make this recommendation, because its not what I like to do, more so then give advice.

But the best valve cover gasket is the Earls Pressure master Seals. Fully Reuseable and will be the last set you will ever need to buy. Deigned to prevent over torqing of bolts which is what causes the leaks in the first place.

Earls had this piece engineered and out long before Fel Pro Cam and nocked it off. in their plastic style valve cover seals. Since the earls pice has a patent on it they had to do their own thing.

Summit has them P/N 29E03BERL. You won't be dissapointed, just shocked at the cost, but as I said you will never have to scrap a cork gasket or have leak issues, and never have to buy a set again.

Just be sure the valve covers are flat, and do not have "Dimples" where the bolts were. If you do have them just use a small hammer and flat surface to flatten them back out.
If you don't want the expense of the above gasket, which is excellent, then go with FelPro. Better than any other standard gasket.

Agree. With the new fel pro piece i would never go back to any type of cork gasket on valve covers for these engines.

Folks, I gave him the valve covers off of my engine for nuttin. They are the aluminum black, ribbed L-82 valve covers.

This is just my way of saying "Thank You" to Adam for giving us this great site.

Adam, i previously had Fel-Pro cork gaskets on them, with the metal strip in the center of the gaskets. If you place a thin layer of silicone on either side of the gasket, you will never have any leaks. They were on my engine for 4 years, never leaked a drop.

Please post a picture when you're finished. I would love to see how it came out for you.
