I've been very undecided about changing out the original carb and manifold on my '70 454 with automatic. Anyone have info on which they went with and why, please let me know. I really don't know if I should just do the carb by itself or go the full route of carb and manifold.

I don't have any first hand knowledge, but I think the factor manifold is one of the few that actually fits under the hood. And before you replace the carb, a good rebuild will get it running like it did in 1970, which was pretty darn good. Joe

I went with the edlebrock torker II manifold. It fits under the stock hood. I also put on a Holley 750 CFM carb. Both of these were the recommendation of local mechanics and performance store personel.

Thanks for the reply. I already rebuilt the carb last year due to the float sticking after the car sat for awhile. Here in the Chicago area I can't/won't drive the car that much. After the rebuild the car ran better but I think it's still not there!

Isn't the Holley 750 too much carb for a totally stock motor? Those whom I spoke with thought the 650 would be better, especially with the turbo trans.

I would personally stick wit the 650 instead of the 750 bc when u hammer it you don't want to flood the stock engine, which will give you horrible acceleration and could even may stall you out.

i believe chevy used 750's on some of its hotter engines back in 69-70. but i agree a 650 would be more responsive on the street
