Vette(s): 73 coupe bought new in 1973 with only luggage rack, AM/FM radio, HD battery & Maplight as options. L48, 4 speed, Paint Med Met Blue 922 interior Dark saddle 418 special order. Repurchased 4/1/06 after 24 years.
I believe 225 70/15's are the OEM tire size equal to the old GR70/15 size. They should fit and perform fine since that is what the car was designed for. If yours are rubbing, check the height between the ground and the wheel well arch, as well as the ground to frame and compare to spec, your springs may be sagging.

Hey Jim, I have 225/70/15's on my 77, anything larger would rub. I wanted to go bigger like Dave but it would not work. I couldn't make rt. or lt. turns without wheel rub. Gene gs77vet 2006-11-07 18:25:08

I run 235-60-15 T/A's on the front and 275-50-15's on the rear. No rubbing problem at all. For 16 years I ran 265-50-15's on the front with the 275-50-15 on the rear.. The 265's on the front only rubbed when turned to lock. Looked like a slot car. I went with the smaller tire this time for more of the big/little look.

Jim just had to trim about 3/8 inch from my rocker panel trim. Only time it rubs the frame on the left side is when I back out of my garage and turn hard left to the steering stop. Besides from that no rubbing. Handles great.

Vette(s): My 1974 Vette sold last August 2014. I am still willing to show up to events and local gatherings if anything happening No new vette yet.
its your springs. i have a 74 and i have the 225/70 R 15 and i am using the firehawk indy 500 tires. they run great but i did rub here and there if i turned too tight. i had my springs checked out and found they were sagging. i replaced them and my ride 100% better. it sounds like extra work but it fixes two problems. your ride height for your tires and your suspension for better handling.
