Automatic or Manual trans?
That's the first question. The oil answer is very speculative. There are many "right" answers, depending on who you talk to and the angle they are looking at it from.
Don't use any oil with a friction modifier in the oil. It will affect the syncros in a manual, the clutch packs in an automatic, and the posi clutches in the diff.
Are the components fresh or many miles? This can decide if you want synth or not.
I know there are no answers here yet, we just need more to go on.

Were there even manual transmissions offered in 1982? I know aftermarket mods can easily change this, but my understanding is that one of the 80s C3s was auto-only.

No help on the oil, I simply use what auto-zone sells and have had no problems yet!

StarQuest is correct.
Not to get off of the subject, but just a little trivia on the '82's and why they were all automatics.
I heard 2 different story's.
1: Could not meet Federal emmission standards with a 4 speed.
2: Major dispute with the supplier (Borg Warner)
Does anybody know the exact reason?
