What would cause an engine to start eating condensors? You can start the engine cold and it will run for a while and just die. Start it again and it will run and die. After a few tries it won't start. Pop the cap, replace the condensor and it fires right off again. I am on my second in two days. Maybe it was just a bad one but same problem two years ago.

Tim , i had the same problem with mine. The number of µfarads of the condensor must suit your points and coil for a start. To high or to low will give erosion on the - side ( fixed grounded one ) of the points or the + side , moving part. I had tryed 4 new sets ! from Accel ( points + condensor ) and it didn't work. ( afterworths i think because there was a Accel racing coil installed by previous owner , in fact a type for electronic ignition. )
I bought a very simple item for 20 $ ! which eliminates the condensor and just needs the triggering from the points ( no more amps through these points to load the coil ) to give the right current impulse to the coil : a bit like a electronic ignition. The car was running perfect !!!
Meanwhile i installed a electronic system in the old distributor , also eliminating the points , with the appropriate coil and all is working perfect , even now i don't need to correct the dwell anymore .
