Hey everyone,
I'm having lots of problems with my carb (some aftermarket Holley) even after rebuilding it, so I'm in the market for a new one. I have NO idea at ALL what kind of carb I should be looking for... CFM? Brand? Stock? 4-bbl? 2-bbl?
Basically I want decent power but I need better gas mileage than my old one was giving me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think the prev carb was a 750 or 800 cfm Holley. A little overkill from what I understand.

I would say if you are looking for milage and easy maintaintence, you can't beat a 600 cfm Edelbrock.
If you are looking a little more performance, go with the 625 Road Demon.
If you REALLY want a performance Carb, try the 650 Street Demon.
I have used al brands on my Vette, and i can honestly say the Street Demon is the best of them all.

I bought a 600cfm Edelbrock for my '77 a couple years ago. Its been a great choice.

It is a wise choice to be conservative on size when choosing a carb . A 600 cfm will deliver crisp acceleration and good overall performance . The edelbrock unit is a modern version of the old carter afb unit and a very tunable and reliable carb .

I had a similar problem with my Vette. I was overcarbed (Holley 750) and ditched it and installed a Holley 650 double pumper with mechanical secondaries. Never ran smoother and getting less fuel smell in the car.

I have a Holley 650 spread bore on my 427. I think it is the right size for the engine but it is either mis-jetted or totally out of adjustment. When the car was dynoed, it showed my air fuel mixture in the "correct" range ( 12-13 ) for only about 300 rpms on any of the test runs. What do you think George, wrong jet or bad adjustment?

It sounds like everyone is reccomending the Edelbrock 600 pretty highly. Where's the best place to pick one up from? I got a remanufactured stock one from my local autoparts store, and I am SO not satisfied. Hopefully they'll take it back.

I've seen the Edelbrock 600cfm in just about every auto parts store I've been in. Shop around and check summitt and jegs for the best price.

I checked the websites for prices, they've got remanufactured ones for $180, with a 90 day warranty from Jeg's, and then Edlebrock covers it for just 30 days.
A new one runs for $215 with a 90 day warrany from both Edlebrock and Jegs.
Hmmm, what do you guys think?

depending on what the warranty covers from Jegs I'd probably go with the Remaned one....but that's just me penny pinchin'....Glenn's been talkin to me too much!
