I've been running a Edelbrock Vortec Performer 2116 intake since '01. It is for Q-jet/Holley spreadbore carbs.
I had to use a drop base air cleaner housing. I trimmed the lip of the base a 1/4". (The lip that sets on the gasket surface of the carb) And I had to file down the wing nut to get it to just clear the stock '81 hood. Which I think have less of a rise than the '73-'77 hoods.
I now have a L-88 style hood on the car which provides plenty of room. Even to acommodate a Nitrous plate under there too.

Vette(s): 1976 L48 4-spd, Mahogany Metalic exterior, Buckskin interior 350ci/350hp, 3rd owner, fiberglass spring, 255/50-16's Torq-Thrust II
Put together 350HO GMPP with Vortec heads so here is whats on the top side. Installed EB RPM manifold with a BG Speed Demon carb. Had to install a 3/4" carb spacer to have enough room to install a vac fitting in the manifold. Running a Proform drop base air filter. The filter is a 2-1/2" tall K&N. Using a SS bolt in place of a wing nut to hold the lid on the filter housing. Have about 3/8" clearance with the hood. suncountry 2008-05-21 21:05:24
