Gosh I have 3 sets of valve seals in my tool chest... (Studebaker/Packard)...that I will someday get around to installing...
Bought them last spring and still have not found the time...or the desire ... to spend a weekend in the garage installing them... The 76 is IN NEED... The 72 and 79 are starting to show me the signs

Just getting lazy... last winter was a bust...and this winter has not been any better.    the 76 is still up on the lift (just after Christmas) and the brake calibers are still sitting on the workbench...

April 1 is only a few days away...and I better get busy...

my 76 will throw out smoke for a long time... like I can drive it about 1 mile before she quits... no more smoke after that even if I let is sit for 3-4 hours ....  Next morning...same routine...

My 72 now will smoke until drive it about a 1/4 mile... but it can sit overnight without smoking the next day... or if it does it only smokes for a few seconds...

Both cars are in NEED of the seals being replaced NOW...   The 79 on the other hand will stop smoking within seconds after I start her up...

Think I paid 16 bucks for a set of replacement seals... not expensive...just something I need..now have to find the time and energy to install....

BTW  I still see no signs of oil consumption... but then again I change
the oil every 1000 miles on all my cars except the 95 which goes
the entire year (5000 miles is the most I ever drove it in a year & and usually I do not drive it that much... on mobile one...

I don't see any either, that's why I'm confused I guess. It's not always blue smoke. I guess I'm just confused about this in general.

Jim, if it's doing the same thing, you need the same thing.

If you only have some seals bad, and others okay (at this point) you could have some leakage depending on the position the engine is in when it stops.  So a sometime thing is not unusual.  It will be every time when the other seals fail, and they are not far behind.

Due to bad valve seals, you can also see blue smoke at times when under heavy acelleration.  At this point they are about gone.

If there is a lesser leakage, sometimes you will see a lesser amount of dark dirty grey smoke, instead of or just before the blue.

If you are not in a hurry, I will shoot some pictures when I do mine.  But that's a couple of months away.
