Pre-filling the cross channels is a good idea. I usually add grease to the caps before installation, if nothing else it helps hold the needles in place!

The joints I've bought have "standard" zerk fittings, but you do need to giv e some thought to how you fit them on the shaft, so that they are accessable in situ. Even then, I can only get the grease gun on them when they are turned to just the right position!

My u-joints were incredibly hard to remove also...
My new u-joints have recessed-type grease zerks. (MOOG Brand). However finding the 'correct' adapter to grease them has been impossible. I would hope that MOOG would have a source for that small adapter.... 🤔

Here is what Moog recommends: Note that the tip has a hardened steel insert... I see many cheap knock-offs (from Amazon in particular) that are not good enough. Get a genuine Lincoln 5803 Made by SKF! These are good for Dbl-cardan joints also with recessed fittings as pictured.

That's interesting. I've never come across the flush fittings before. They would certainly make it easier to reach the fitting, assuming you have the correct high quality gun adapter!
