transmission

I just did the conversion to 700R4 and it is great...you can read all the specks http://www.VetteRegistry.net/forum/topic78729.html. Is really not that hard to do with a little patience and some help from the guys here.

Money is a issue I wasn't prepared for this, all these upgrades sound great, but i can't do it myself and have to pay for the labor and parts.  A local shop was refered to me and yesterday I visited the shop and found out the owner has 3 corvettes. A frame off total restoration on a 72 conv, a c4 ZR1, and hes working on a 66 now. Has been rebuilding transmissions for 25 years and knows corvettes. He suggested reusing my transmissin and quoted me a price of $1700. for rebuilding my transmission and torgue conv, and taking it out and reinstalling it.

i dont want to steal anyones thread but this leaves me with some questions, when you do the 200r change over does that shifter stay the same or does that have to be change. I have been told to do this change as well when I do a trans which will be in the next year. what ratio changes will i see going from the 400 from stock to a 200r? mine is a 74.

Finally dropped my 76 off at the shop to have the transmission rebuilt.  This guy has done frame off restorations on a c2 and a c3 72 conv and has been rebuilding transmissions for 25 years. he told me years ago he would do 3 or 4 of these a month but now hardly does any. Now he does hondas and toyotas and everything else. I stopped by after the trans was out and he showed me third gear was shot. Since he has the exhaust off I'm also getting my composite spring installed with kyb gas shocks. I'm having all 6 universals replaced,new shock mounts,strut rods and shock mounts.I'm also having  insulation installed over the trans with a foam collar, can't wait to drive it. Thanks guys for all the information.

Tony, I just missed you on this one. I decided last week to do the 700R4 conversion. My TH350 was rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago with all HD parts and I have a new TCI converter in it that has seen less miles than the trans. Letting the whole set up go for $750. Chirps second every time...
