Vette(s): 1970 T-Top350/350hp numbers matching 4 speed. It's a mess and 1970 Convertible 4 speed.

Hey on the 70 the transmission bar is welded to the frame. But it has a 4 speed in it. Does it mean that the car was a auto at one time?

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.
I think Joel answered that in your "bought another one" thread.

CRE1970350tur 350 3004A F X

1970, 300hp 350 w/turbo 350 trans, 4 bbl carb, A, F, X body styles.

On second thought, that was info from the engine numbers only, so maybe Joel can help again.

Cars with standard transmissions had crossmembers that were welded to the frame, at least until the last years of the Sharks. Automatic equipped cars had bolt-in crossmembers. It would be next to impossible to remove/replace and auto trans with the crossmember welded in, so they had to have the bolt-in crossmembers.
If your "new" '70 has the original frame, and it has a welded crossmember, then it was originally a 4 speed car....you're good on that.

Thanks Joel at lest its a real four speed car. Have not had time to jack it up and do a inspection on it. But one thing my 81 has a  manual and it has the bolt on crossmember which lead me to believe that it was a auto.

The later year Sharks w/standards did have removable crossmembers, but only the last couple of years('80-'81).
