trailing arm removal

I am in the process of putting wheel bearings in my 72 coupe and I the bolt that holds the trailing arm through the frame is stuck and I cant get it out! I have tried the big hammer, and bigger hammer,sawing the bushing out with a sawzall(sleve in bushing is hardend BTW) If anyone can give me some help it would be great. thanx

If it is stuck that hard the best thing to do is heat the bolt with a torch till it turns red. Then let it cool and spray it down with a penetrating oil called "KROIL". Let it sit over night and spray it down again. then you should be able to drive it out with a punch and a B.F.H. Make sure you spray the Kroil on the shims too. I own and operate a marine repair shop and use Kroil all the time. It is the best penetrating oil I have ever used.

Hey, I think they make a press tool that you can change the bearing on the car? may help may not, just thought i would share. I need to change the bearing on my 72, so let me know how it goes

I was scared to use a torch because the body is like 4 inches from this bolt.The reason I am pulling the arm off the bushing is froze up also.

If you use a good acetylene torch you can turn it down to a small jet of flame and heat the bolt without a lot of excess heat to the body. Your local hardware store should have some fiber heat reflecting pads made for soldering pipe fittings to protect wood from getting burned while repairing water pipes. You can hold it up to sheild the body from the heat.

One word.....SAWZALL!!! you can always get the replacement bolt/shoims at the Chevy Dealership

just got the arm off, If anyone has the same trouble, take the cotter pin out holding the shims in place,pull the shims out of both sides and take the sawzall to the bolt on the inside between the arm and frame.
