Mine has power steering but sorry, at 100 mph se seems like flying instead of rubbing the asfalt....perhaps my front wheels are not right correct aligned ???? it is really sceary to go above that speed ....????
Or was non power steering more stable at speeds ??

Vette(s): 73 coupe bought new in 1973 with only luggage rack, AM/FM radio, HD battery & Maplight as options. L48, 4 speed, Paint Med Met Blue 922 interior Dark saddle 418 special order. Repurchased 4/1/06 after 24 years.
I am in the process of converting mine back from power steering to manual which it origionally had. Could someone explain the tierod front vs rear hole thing? I am not sure what I need to do with mine. I have removed all the PS stuff and am now stuck at the pitman arm removal stage. I broke two cheap (harbor freight) pullers so far.

The Tie Rods attach to the Spindle that have Two Holes one closer to the Axel and one further away. By using the Hole closer to the Axel the Car will Steer Quiker but will need more effort on the Wheel. By useing the Hole (aft) further from the Axel the Car will Steer a bit Slower but with less effort. I believe that all PS Cars left the Factory in the Quik Steer Hole and all Manual Steer Cars left in the Slower Hole. However I don't think it matters wich Hole You Use You can suit Your own taste. If You have an Iron Head Big Block with Big Fat Tires and No PS You may not want to Use the Quiker one. Most beleive that Quiker is better but when the 84 Z 51 came out the Steering was so quik that at speeds over 100 mph about an inch of Steering Wheel movement put You in the Ditch.So why are You removing the PS? The car wanders around at highway speed with the power steering. It has about 1 inch of play around neutral on the steering wheel. With manual steering it used to be rock solid with no play. I have tightened up the steering box (both lash and preload) but it still has play. The problem may be my power valve, but since the car came with manual steering, and I drove it that way for 9 years and over 80,000 miles, I just want to put it back the way it was. I may regret it, but I am keeping all the pwr steering stuff, and can go back any time. Its just a small block with no air, no pwr brakes, no pwr anything. I bought it new with virtually no options since that was all I could afford at the time.

You might be right about the control valve and or ajustment. Did the play start right away after installing the PS? Sounds to me You swaped in a componet somewhere with Play in it. So You got Your old Vette back but what about the Girl????? Richard........
