Not sure if this will help but I'll try,,
A tire w/ a size of 255/60/15 means that the tire is 255 mili-meters WIDE/ the distance between the tread & the bead is 60% (or 153mm tall) of the 255/ & 15 is rim diameter. When you have a 255/70 mounted,, you have the same width tire on the rim but now you're 10% taller (hence the rubbing 'cause your overall diameter is larger). Different manufacturers also measure the tires at different points,, some measure true tread width (footprint that will be touching the ground),, while others measure the tire at the widest point (usually about 1/2 way between the bead & the rim). 2 tires of the same size made by 2 different companies can look like totally different widths, depends on the measuring method. This link may also help a bit,,,
