Tired of feeling guilty...

I feel so guilty…

Today, I cheated on a long-running relationship. Am I proud of it? No. Was I too tempted to resist? No.

But I did it anyway. And now, I gotta be honest--the object of my new affection does look pretty darn good. Sexy, even.

But I need expert advice on the risk I may run if I actually get into a deeper relationship.


See, today I went out and bought a Firestone Indy 500 Firehawk. 255/60 15”. To serve as a spare, if and when one of the Goodyear Eagle GT’s I’m currently running goes bad on me. I told myself that I had to do it, since Goodyear isn’t currently offering the Eagles. So it’s not really cheating…

Now I want to know if there’s any potential downside to running a different brand of tire, with a different tread pattern—even though the tire size is the same for the Firestone and the Goodyears (27” diameter).

Since so many of you actively encouraged me to cheat like this—yes you did! Maybe not directly, but you swear up and down here just how much you love your Firehawks, how great they make you feel, etc….so don’t deny it!!—I figure the least you can do to ease my guilt is tell me that my two different tires are gonna get along just fine.


Just as long as I don’t go buying any new black vinyl bras for our Silver Anniversary…

…and hey--don’t anybody be telling me, “oh, you should have just gone and gotten a little T&A instead…”


The tire shop couldn’t GET any Bridgestones in that size…

It's only a spare, you'll only be cheating for a short time.. Yea.. You won't be cheating all the time, for a long time? Just now and then. Don't feel guilty now, only when you do it? and then until you fix it. Yea..Then you won't feel guilty anymore..Yea..It don't matter to me I have T.A.'s all around and as a back up..Yea And about the bra, I have one for each of mine and nobody will change my mind..Yea

Funny!  I went to get a new set of T/As about 6 months ago and they were completely out of stock - everywhere - and it wasn't a case of where I could wait (had steel showing in one tire).  So, my tire friend convinced me to get a set of Uniroyal GTS in 255/60-15.  I run them at 35# all around and they feel great and grip well (much better than my T/As in the wet).  I have even autocrossed with them - not bad at all.

I'm not wishing SFVette any bad luck, but if he has a flat tire and puts that Firestone Firehawk on his car, it will ride and handle 25% better. 

I checked my spare last fall for the first time. Of course it was flat and filthy.

Your such a BAD BOY, SFVette!  If you have to use your spare, it won't hurt your car at all, just as long as it's the same size tire as your others (and I think you said it was above).

Spare? you mean there is a spare on my vette!  I never thought about it before I guess I better go out and look underneath that thing and make sure it has one.
