Glad you figured it out. That's exactly what I was gonna suggest. I will also suggest you put the cover back on. It really needs to be one there to keep crap from flying up in there, and damaging anything. Small rocks will do the most unbelievable damage!!
The cover can be a pain to get installed correctly, but a little patience will get it done, as long as the cover is not bent. Just make sure the top lip is tucked in front of the lip of the oil pan, and you should be good to go. Most of the time, it will fall, and get stuck in behind the pan lip, and that's where the noise comes from.

I need to replace the oil pan. There are big dents in the bottom. Also the formed circular part that closes off the rear of the oil pan in all bent. so it does not keep the bellhousing cover in place. As I do my test runs with the rebuilt transmission, I will stay off the back roads.
