Vette(s): White '79 Corvette. It's a driver.
The Tach on my '79 quit today while I was warming it up. It just went down to zero and didn't move at all.

I shut it off and restarted it. The Tach showed some small signs of life but wasn't reading as high as I know it should have been.

After it warmed up I noticed the Tach was reading correctly.
I put about 50 miles on it today. It ran fine and the Tach read correctly for the rest of the day.
Confused

Any ideas???

At first I was going to suggest checking the tach drive cable connections at each end. I then realized that your tach is electric, not mechanical. Anyway check the connections at the distributor........wire push on. The circuit boards get screwy if you still have the original one. There are improved boards to replace the outdated old ones. Also there is a tachometer filter in your circuit that can be a problem.

Almost always when our customers have this problem, it is solved with the new tach board.  It is just over $100.00, so you can afford to experiment.

After reconnecting it at the distributor, no problems at all for the last three days. (About 100 miles and numerous restarts).THX 440HP!

Larry,
I'll be in touch for a new tach board if the problem returns.
