I'm thinking about swapping out my T400 for a 2004R in my 1975 with a 350. Has anybody done this? I would like to lower the RPMs at highway speed 2750 now at 70 MPH with a 3.08 rear.

Brian(redwingvette) has done that swap, and he likes it. I believe he is at the NCM Celebration this week, but he will chime in once he sees this. Thumbs Up

It is one of the best mods you candor other old cars. Is this something you will be doing yourself or having it done? I used a tainsmissuion from Bowtie Overdrives put of California. They sell everything you need weather you buy their transmission or use your one. The only thing I added was a B&M Converter controller.

I'll do it myself. At first I was thinking junkyard tranny and have it gone through. Then I found Bowtie overdrive and thinking that's probably the better way to go with there updates. I don't think there TV cable setup will work because I can't raise my carb any with there spacer plate it will hit the hood to hard.

Did you use your old cross member and drive shaft or have to modify them?

Thanks Mark

I used both but I had to changer the front U joint to fit the yoke of the 200-4R trans. GM made this U-joint back when they changed to the TH350 trans. I will see if I can finds the part number but all I did was take the driveshaft and yoke to the local parts store and they hooked me up. The trans mount is the same as the TH400 so nothing to do there.

The plate they supply is only a 1/16" thick so it did not add much to the height of the carb. Since I already changed to the Holley carb I had issues anyway.
The most important thing about the setup is the TV cable. That is the life and death of the transmission. Follow BTO's instructions and you will be fine. I used the same trans cooling lines but I did have to make some small bends to fit the locations of the new trans.
