Vette(s): 1971 T-top. I just had car shipped from my parents house in florida where it has sat for over 12 years..It is going to be a long project!
I remember getting old ones off was much easier than putting new ones on. One side seemed to go on easy and the other was a little harder... needed a little help 
... If I remember right what we did was raise and lower wheel to help with getting the bolts to line up with holes and go in straight. Now this was on a 71, I dont know how much it differs from 79.

With the rear wheels hanging, disconnect the rods at the shaft that the shocks also attach to. With both rods hanging, remove as an assembly by removing the bolts that hold the bracket to the diff. housing. Easier on a work bench.
