stock posi vs aftermarket

How good is the stock posi in comparison to an aftermaket one? I am rebuilding my rear end with a new TRW spring,and a set of gas shocks( there is a whole 'nuther subject)and I am rebuilding the rear diff with a larger carrier bearing cap on the left side from Tom's Differential(using 1/2 bolts vs 7/16 stock) and heavy duty stub axles but need to garner some input inregards to the posi. I have plenty of power(around 400 motor and 550 with NOS)and I want to put it to good use on the street.In other words what would be a good selection. Rebuild the stock or go to an aftermarket.

The Eaton posi unit was used for a lot of years, and the L-88s, LT-1s, etc., all used them very well. My opinion, go with a fresh build on what you have, and drive the pee out of it!! I think you would tear up the half-shafts before the diff. cuts loose. My 2c.

Sounds like a concept to me! Consider it done.

The new aftermarket Eaton posi units are stronger than the originals. You can also cryo it to make it even stronger. Just my .02

P.S. Is the part number going to be the same for the new Eaton posi? I dont want to get an old style if I buy the newer one.

I don't know the part number for the posi's. I can assure you that just about every single Eaton posi that was available were all sold out from Cali to FL. They stopped making them for about a year and a half b/c of some manufacture mess up, plus the fact that they relocated to Mexico. So you can almost bet it's going to be a brand spankin new unit.

Ya,I was wondering why the price was spiking. One guy on Ebay had one for $354.00 and also had another one (same P/N)for $489.00.He dosen't have any at the lower price anymore. I figured the $354.00 one was the last one on the planet at that price.
