Hello all...anyone know how big of a job it is to replace the pivot support and retainer in an 82 telt/tele steering column? Any special tools needed? Any help would be great

You can buy the snap ring removal tool at a parts store and because its a tele column I run a set screw down the shaft so it don't extend out while you use it. Then down inside there there are 4 12 point bolts down by the piviot ball. If your steering wheel is floping around, this is proubly your problem. These 4 bolts are loose. Its kind of tricky doing this.
If it's not painted, Chrome it!!!

Hi,
My steering wheel flops about a half inch in all directions. I took the column apart down to the big star shaped thing, but couldn't get past there. I had to put it back together. I have heard that it is easy to break things in there, so I didn't want to put force on anything......I'm stuck.

Hi again...talked to a guy who does this for a living. Tom the owner of Corvette Steering Service told me it can be done at home with great care, but he recommended I send the column into him. The cost of a full column rebuild for my year is only $250. A good deal for an "as new" column. Thanks for the responce from the members on my post.
