I would like to ckeck if the steering box is still the original one for my 77.
Based on the dates I think it is, but I'm not able to verify all the numbers I found. Maybe someone can help me a little bit.

The numbers are as follow:

On the housing:
5677649 --> casting / part number
00 3 --> this number is located just below the above number. ???
25476 --> casting date of the housing

On the top cover:
7802287 --> casting / part number
below the part number there is a 9 in a circle (dots) and a 6 just beside it. ???
DC or OC inside a bigger C ???

Tag plate (fixed by one of the top bolts):
279 6 --> My guess is, that this is the assembly date of the gear box.

Regards from Hungary
Peter

It is the correct casting # for the car.
Best I can tell, the box was cast sometime in September '76, and assembled approximately the second week of October  '76. So if your body build date is late October/November of '76, it looks good. Thumbs Up
Do you know the build date?

My cars birthday should be October 12 1976.

Regarding the assembly date, the number on the tag plate 279 6 is therfore not the 27th of September, 1976. It is in this case day 279 of the year 1976. Right?

Then the exact assembly date of the box will be the 5th of October (leap year).

So casting numbers and dates are looking gooooooooood Approve
